CHAPTER 3

Mack returns to the hotel. In the meantime, the story turns to the government’s actions behind the scene.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

(Poring over files in command room. Screens around with agents moving about. He is in a mid-sized chair in a glass office among many in the black-ops center).

(Looking at report) – Hmmm. Hey Jeff (turns toward agent walking across way). Do we have anything new from satellite on the Lloyd case?

JEFF

Yes and no. We came across some evidence about 10 miles from site, but are not sure if it’s from him. It appears someone was making use of an old Russian drop-point. Seems consistent with the direction he was headed, but we are still combing through before jumping to a conclusion.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

So when was I going to be informed of this?

JEFF

Ha! Soon enough. Boss is still not all too happy.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

I figured. But, as I said, what could we do? They were running feeds on another location.

JEFF

Yeah, but it was still your job to keep him.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

You should’ve seen what that kid did to the break door. No one said anything about handling that…

JEFF

No one here was expecting it. Doesn’t mean you go unprepared.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

Ehh. Whatever. They just better not be keeping any more intel out of my file. I’m in no mood to get slaughtered as a “test run.”

JEFF

Don’t be worried. This is all new to us. Clearly, what is going on behind the scenes is bigger than we know.

MAIN SECRET AGENT

I hope it’s not bigger than we can handle.

CUTS BACK TO MACK RETURNING TO APARTMENT

MACK

(Mack sees Cap asleep on the bed). Hey bud. Time to get up. I think we got a lead.

CAP

(Groggy) 5 more minutes…please…

MACK

You can sleep when you’re dead. We really need to get scouting out this place if you want to find your parents.

CAP

Alright alright. So what’s the deal?

MACK

It appears that they may be held at Plum Island.

CAP

Where’s that?

MACK

Fairly close. It’s a facility for disease control that also operates as an experimentation station. It’s normally used for animals but I think they’ve expanded operations.

CAP

So are we going to do like we did before?

MACK

Negative. This is much more complicated. I don’t think you can come along.

CAP

I get that it’s dangerous, but there’s got to be something you can use me for. I want to be involved.

MACK

As of right now, the most I can trust you with is backup surveillance of the outside.

CAP

Oh come on. There’s got to be something I can do on the inside.

MACK

You do realize that, if you mess anything up, we’re both dead…or worse.

CAP

I know.

MACK

If you can promise me your full, undivided attention for the next 5 hours, I will train you on my software so you can view the facility blueprint and provide me with feedback as I get through. It’s still just observation, but it will require you to come with me under their computer room.

CAP

I’m in. You have my complete attention.

(Cuts to next scene as Mack shows Cap the software they will be using to navigate the facility).

–          Mack and Cap drive out together to scope the outside of the facility. Mack takes down some notes and begins to use his computer to hack the security. He takes note of what they need to do to enter.

MACK

Ok. From what I have here, it looks like this place is the real deal. They have security all across this place and I’m picking up additional satellite surveillance. Getting in will be a nightmare. So will be getting out. I am going to have to make a decoy for us to get into the facility.

CAP

Like what?

MACK

I’m going to have to draw satellite attention in addition to cracking the codes in. So I think we are going to need something like a boat coming into a nearby port too fast and crashing into someone else’s boat. Simple, but enough to draw attention up above.

CAP

So who is going to do that?

MACK

Hahah! I hope you like putting your engineering skills to use.

CAP

Oh boy.

MACK

We’ll build the rig together. Hotwire a boat and set a timer.

CAP

Didn’t know I’d be getting to work so soon.

(Mack and Cap go out late at night and search out a boat they can use. They see a cheap one for sale and Mack decides that he’ll buy it for them to use). They make a plan of what they are going to do together.

Mack

Cap, we’re going into the building through a sewer entrance that will require disarming a special trip alarm. We’re going to follow the map to the secondary control room. This requires special equipment and patience.

(Points to laser-sight in bag. The facility is very old and thus the means to enter it are also very old. Mack picks up the boat in the early morning and brings it to Cap where they put the timed-hotwiring device on so that the boat will create a distraction. They set the boat up and position it. They then proceed to go to the nearby sewer to sneak into the Plum Island control center.

Mack proceeds to bypass the codes and, once he does, the trigger for the boat goes off and the boat hits into the dock, causing a fire and a distraction which draws satellite attention.

Mack and Cap proceed to go inside to the control room which is unmonitored. (Different than the security room).

Mack

Hang low and watch the monitors. Use this earpiece to signal me.

Mack and Cap view the screens and they think they see Cap’s parents lying in a bed with tubes going into them among a few others.

Mack

I am going to try to save your parents, but there is a chance they won’t make it out if something goes wrong.

Cap

Like what?

Mack

Keep your eye on the screens and we can hopefully avoid whatever it may be.

Cap
I understand.

Mack crawls through the sewers to the room, hears some doctors talking about moving the bodies that day.)

Mack

(Over the earpiece) Cap – Hit the repeater feed for the room so that security does not catch our drift.

Cap does so and Mack slips in with a hacker-card key as Cap engages the software to break the secondary lock. Mack finds that Cap’s parents are unconscious and won’t wake up. Mack picks up the file next to the parents and reads. Realizes that Cap’s parents are in a vegetative state placed there so that the government could experiment with their genes. It does not appear to Mack that Cap’s parents are technically dead but it is unclear if they can be brought back. Before he can tell Cap, Mack hears someone coming in through the door. Guards are coming by because they caught wind of the repeater signal.

Mack

Cap – hang low – I’m coming to you!

(Just as Mack is slipping down through a backroom grate a guard opens the door.)

GUARD

“THERE! Stop him!”

Tasers deploy and shock the grate but Mack drops and flees. Guards then pull out actual guns.

GUARD

“Shoot to kill! SHOOT HIM!”

Guards begin to fire down the drain as Mack runs. Screaming to Cap to jump down and be ready to run out. Guards drop down and give chase around tunnels, firing and missing. Mack comes across Cap.

CAP

“My parents! Where are they?”

Mack

“Kid, I don’t think they are going to make it, but we’re not either if we don’t run now!”

CAP

“THAT’S IT!” (Cap is really angry.)

Turns and runs down the hall with lightning speed toward the charging guards, body emanating a black and purple essence. Before they know what has hit them, Cap has punched and knocked down all of the guards who initially came down (10 of them). Cap then turns and yells to Mack,

Cap

“I’m not leaving here without my parents!”

Cap runs with lightning speed toward the grate Mack came up He jumps up like a wild animal into a team of doctors just standing in amazement. He rushes to where his parents would have been but they are not there.

Cap

“WHERE ARE THEY?” Cap screams as his picks up a Doctor with one hand.

The doctor points toward a small window. His parents were rushed to a helicopter to be taken off-base. Another doctor attempts to sedate cap with an injection, but the needle bends as it hits his skin. Cap pushes the doctor down and runs straight at the window, bursting through the wall and landing outside. He coughs a little as he rises from the rubble, dirty and clothing ripped. He stares at the helicopter as it is lifting off. He runs fast to the pad but the helicopter is over 100 feet in the air as he arrives. He goes to jump up and nearly touches the helicopter’s rail, but fails to maintain and lands back down in a cloud of dust and cracked pavement. He then begins to glow stonger and, in one moment, his eyes glaze as he rises with powerful speed from the ground, flying toward the craft. The helicopter begins to fly faster than him but he trails, bouncing around and flying awkwardly as he attempts to control his newfound power. A soldier with a machine gun begins to fire toward Cap, but Cap dodges the line of fire.

CAP

Cap stares straight at the chopper and says,

“You’re not getting away, not this time!”

At that moment, another soldier from the helicopter fires a large, shoulder-held rocket. The rocket careens toward Cap. Cap cannot fully dodge the missile and blocks his face with arms crossed. KABOOM! The rocket explodes near Cap, sending him hurdling into the water. Cap is knocked down and very dazed. He sees the helicopter fading into the distance between sea foam coming across his face. The sky is dark stormy and it begins to lightning and rain.

BOOM! Explosions are seen coming from the facility .

Suddenly, Mack pulls up in a black speed-boat with a cover-top. He pulls Cap out and speeds off in the direction of the storm. Mack manages to escape by riding through the storm which prevented other aircraft and satellite feed from tracking. In the background, there is a lot of smoke and fire from C-4 explosives Mack had set off without Cap’s knowledge. Cap looks up and out from where they had come.

CAP

What’s just happened?

MACK

I had to have a back-up plan. It was called C-4. I figured you might pull that stunt, so I had to be sure we could get away.

CAP

What about my parents?

MACK

Look for yourself – Mack throws cap the file.

Cap reads that his parents are put into a conditional vegetative state so the government can keep them alive while they experiment on their genes in hopes of replicating what happened to CAP.

CAP

So are they dead?

MACK

Not quite, but I don’t know how alive they are either. What we do know now is what the government is planning to do. We cannot engage this like we have been any more. We need bigger help. This is war.

CAP

Begins to cry as he holds his head. Look back up and out over the sea through the rain toward NYC.

“If it’s a war they want, we’ll give it to them.”
