Part 5 – Voluntaryist ORIGINS – THE BEGINNING (Part 5 of the Story)

Tree

SCENE: MACK’S BUNKER. Mark’s bunker looks like a mix between an old military bunker and a mine-shaft. It’s probably a space about three acres across and  about 1 acre high. There are electronics built into the wall and it appears that ventilation is provided through lengthy holes leading to the surface. There is an edge leading to a ravine where it appears flood water is retained and drops off to.

CAP

So what now? Who are you?

MACK

Alright Cap. So here’s your debriefing. My name is Mack Lee. I’m an ex special-ops agent who was on the verge of becoming a senior officer directing other special ops agents. Unfortunately for the U.S. government, I discovered some valuable information on my last mission before promotion. I was assigned to take out a Chinese spy who was supposedly carrying secrets of a terrorist attack and bring his docs in for review. In the process, I discovered and cracked another file he held which the U.S. government didn’t know about. The file described, in detail, a project of the U.S. government called MKINFRA. MKINFRA’s mission was to create genetically modified humans to carry out a false flag. If you don’t know what that means, it means the government was faking an event to stir politics a certain way. It happens all the time, but this was something unique because it wasn’t for your usual drug cartel sting or dictator swap. Instead, the government was trying to create a global panic in an effort to unify nations and currencies under a one-world system. This system is not benevolent – the system is a police state where every person is monitored from birth at all times so that dissent can be squashed at the flick of a finger. The only way to do this was to create a common enemy – in this case, making modified humans look like aliens and faking an alien invasion.

I’ve done some pretty shady deeds in my time, but I couldn’t stand by for this. I cannot live my life knowing that I was part of enslaving humanity for good. That’s why I reached out for you.

CAP

But what do I have to do with that?

MACK

Well that’s just it. I’m not fully sure, but I have a guess. The program involved genetically modified humans. The government got pretty far with simple modifications, but it could never keep them. Things like super-strength, healing ability, and intelligence burned out cells like many other cloning experiments. My guess is that you have some genetic modification that was successful.

CAP

Well, I have a story for you too…but then how did you find me?

MACK

Accidentally. I began hacking through some more files to see what I could learn of MKINFRA. I was looking in the wrong direction and instead came across persons of interest in another project, MKSUPRE. It appears there is some cross-over. MKSUPRE deals with humans and other creatures who were affected by the recent black-hole collision.

CAP

What’s that?

MACK

It appears that a cosmic event sent a special radiation to earth – the kind the of radiation the government has been synthetically creating in its human modification experiments. I believe the government is searching out those who may have been hit by the radiation in an effort to study the effects…maybe even more.

CAP

Like recruitment?

MACK

Possibly! Is that what you’re going to tell me?

CAP

Well yeah. I think I was struck by that energy. It burned a couple acres of the farm and put me in the hospital for two days – I miraculously healed up. I didn’t know what to make of it and was waiting for the results from my doctor.

MACK

You shouldn’t hold your breath for your results. I have a feeling that anyone close to this event is going to be on a milk carton soon.

CAP

WHAT? WHOA WHOA! My parents – you don’t think they…

MACK

They could have.

CAP

WE NEED TO GO, NOW! My parents could be in trouble!

MACK

Hold your horses. Before we go getting ourselves killed, let’s look at a camera feed I placed at by your home.

CAP

Seriously? Does anyone have privacy these days?

MACK

Santa and Jesus are watching you all the time. (Laughs)

CAP

This is not a joke – show me the video.

MACK

Alright, let’s see. (Pulls up video feed. It is actually a mini-cam set in the barn facing the home. The home is smoking and charred. Firefighters and a crowd have surrounded the farm. Some fire is still burning on top of the roof).

CAP

WE NEED TO GET THEM OUT, NOW! (Runs over to car). COME ON!

MACK

Listen kid. I didn’t just save your ass to throw it away. You saw what just happened out there. There is a reason the government wants you, and I know it’s not for a beauty pageant. Whatever is going on at your house, I guarantee you it’s a trap. There’s no way we can leave here at least for 24 hours while I triangulate each potential government threat searching for you.

CAP

I didn’t come with you to let my parents die! I’m willing to risk it. Let me out NOW!

MACK

Don’t make me lock you up. This is bigger than us – every person’s life on this planet could be jeopardized  if we go out there now!

CAP

I hope your weapons are stronger than your words. (Goes to grab car handle).

MACK

I wouldn’t do that. (Mack clicks button in pocket. Electricity comes through door handle and knocks Cap down onto the ground. Cap reels over in pain!)

CAP

(Rolling on ground) Are you freaking kidding me! DAMN that hurts!

MACK

Please don’t do this right now. I don’t want to hurt you.

CAP

That’s it! (Gets up and goes to charge at Mack. Mack pulls out launchable Taser. Cap doges the deployment and punches Mack in the chest, sending him flying against bunker shelves).

MACK

Holy screaming Jesus! (Mack is writhing in pain. The only thing that saved him from serious injury was his flak jacket that had bullet-proofing).

CAP
Do you get how serious this is? I’m not playing around right now. That’s my family, my life. What would you do?

MACK

Mack rolls over and starts to get up.

You win, Cap. Look, I don’t want all this to be for nothing. I get it. Your family is your world. But we need to at least be strategic about this. We need to listen to each other and you not punch me like that again, OK?

CAP

I mean it Mack. My parents gave me everything I have. The least I can do is try to help them.

MACK

Sighs. Ok, first things first. We need to get you geared up and you need to only move when I say it’s clear, you got that?

CAP

Fine.

MACK

We are going to take another less conspicuous vehicle which will be guarded by my scramblers. Our mission is to locate your parents and get them to safety IF SAFE FOR US TO DO SO. Are you sure they are level-headed for this? Because if they are anything like you just were….

CAP

They’ll be fine. Tell me what I need to do so we make it back safe and undetected.

MACK

Alright…Let’s begin.

SCENE: Montage of Mack explaining the basic gear and plan.

MACK

So with that, we are going to scope out the area and find if your parents are still on the scene or somewhere else? Good?

CAP

Let’s do it.

SCENE: Cap and Mack get into car with gear on. Drive out into the dark. Approach farm from a distant hill. Park car in discreet spot. Get out binoculars to view scene. There are still fire trucks, medics, and ambulances around with some locals and the local paper. Cap’s mother and father are out talking with an insurance adjuster while medics are taking vitals.

MACK

I’m seeing two older people – those your folks?

CAP

Yeah. That’s them. So how are we getting to them?

MACK

At this point, I’m not sure. I’d put money down that the government agents are watching too. They probably set this fire to distract your parents and attract you back to the farm. If we didn’t have my scrambler, they’d probably be picking us up via satellite.

CAP

So… then why did we do it this way?

MACK

Because it’s the best we could do to monitor and I clearly needed to get you out of the house.

CAP

That’s not my house.

MACK

Kid, looks like you don’t have a house, now does it?

CAP

So when do we move?

MACK

Relax. This could be a 24-hour stake-out. At least it gives us the advantage to see what the agents are planning potentially. For all we know, some of those firemen are agents acting undercover. We’ll have to watch for cues.

Scene: Suddenly, a black van approaches with red and blue lights. It pulls up to Cap’s mother and father. S.W.AT. come out and take Cap’s mother and father into custody, tying plastic cuffs around their wrists.

CAP

HELL NO! They are not taking my parents.

MACK

Grabs Cap by shoulder. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Look at what is clearly going on – your parents are not criminals. This is a setup. If you go down there now, there will be an ambush.

CAP

What if they do to them what they were looking to do to me?

MACK

I don’t know! You were the only one of your family in that file, I take it to mean that you are the fish and, if anything, they are the bait. We must only track them at this point.

CAP

Then let’s go.

MACK

Fine. But I’m telling you now – there is so much more going on than you know. Don’t lose the forest in the trees.

CAP

Those aren’t trees. Those are my parents.

MACK

If you are lost because of them, then there is nothing left.

SCENE: Mack and Cap get to their car and try to trail the S.W.A.T. van. It appears to head toward the postal office where Cap was originally taken.

MACK

This is not good. That is one of their temporary holding cells. There is a secret helipad back there. (Helicopter can be seen coming in at a distance).

CAP

Just drive – I need to know where they are going.

MACK

(Stops at a distance. Mom and dad are taken out with bags over their heads. They are brought into the back room. Mack and Cap watch with long-range binoculars. Suddenly, two flashes of light and two bangs are heard in the distance.)

CAP

That wasn’t what I think it is, right?

MACK

Just keep watching.

CAP

No no no. If that was gunfire…there is no freaking way!

(Two body-bags are brought out on stretchers to the helicopter).

CAP

OH GOD! NO! NOOOO!

MACK

Peers over at Cap. Maybe it’s not what you think.

CAP

I just saw my parents come out in two body bags. (Begins to cry). Why? Why this? Why me? Hand slams against side window, fracturing the thick, bullet-proof glass. (Mack cowers a little).

MACK

Hold on kid! (Begins to drive out.) I am sorry about your parents. I wish I could do something to help you. We need to get out now though. I got a signal that a chopper sweep is coming through.

CAP

Still sobbing. Head in hands.

MACK

Drives back toward base.

CAP

As they approach the underground entrance – “I just want to die now.” Cap opens door and rolls out at 60 mph.

Mack screeches to a halt as plumes of dust are kicked up.

MACK

Mack looks out and is unsure what to do. He drives back and steps out of the vehicle and stands above cap who is scratched up all over.

Are you hurt?

CAP

Still sobbing and writhing. – yeah Sherlock. It hurts.

MACK

Pulls out medical kit form car. As he comes over Cap, he notices that Cap’s fresh scrapes and business are beginning to vanish before his eyes.

Oh my God. Cap, you’re healing.

CAP

Cap lifts his arm up and seems the wounds begin to heal through his tears.

MACK

Whispers to self. “This must be it. They must want you because you have regeneration – you a successful regenerator.”

CAP

I don’t want to live like this…these past few days have been too much.

MACK

(To self – please let this phase pass). Look, I cannot fathom what you are going through right now, my parents died when I was too young to remember. But you don’t have to let this moment defeat you. Let me help. (Picks up CAP in his arms still sobbing and bleeding, places him into passenger seat folded down).

“It’s not over yet.”

CHAPTER 2

SCENE: The distress of the last couple days left Cap in a deep sleep which lasted a day and a half. Mack kept an eye on Cap while he plotted the next course, seeking a new hide-out further from and safer than the current location. Mack’s experience as an agent gave him some ideas about where to go. His only reservation would be whether Cap could handle moving on this soon.

Cap began to wake up slowly. Mack comes to stand over him.

Mack

Hey buddy. That was a nice nap. How are you feeling?

Cap

Whuu? Ahhhhh crap. (Mumbles) It wasn’t a bad dream. A little tear rolls down his cheek and he rolls over.

Mack

I’m glad you made it. It appears you wounds healed completely. I monitored your vitals and tried to clean you up. You’ll have to take care of your privates though. Not my business.

Cap

Thanks. So…is it true? Are my parents really dead?

Mack

Honestly, I don’t know. But, from what I do know of the situation, I have a feeling your parents were taken alive to either be used as leverage or possibly for experimentation. We’ll have to keep working together to find out. I think we can rescue them, but it’s not going to be easy – and that’s an understatement.

Cap

Well, at this point I feel defeated. Just about a week ago I was ready to help my parents start a better life and create a decent one for myself. Now I think it’s all for nothing.

Mack

Don’t talk like that. You clearly are talented and this is just a bump in the road. Haha! I know because I know your grades and accomplishments. You remind me of someone I knew as a youth.

Cap

Oh yeah. Who?

Mack

Me. Just like you, I had outstanding scores as a high school student. I just didn’t go to college like you. Instead, I joined the air force hoping to fly jets I knew I could never get my hands on in the civilian world. Little did I know the government had other plans.

Cap

Like…?

Mack

As I was saying, black ops. The government saw my smarts and realized I wasn’t just a book worm. I could get physically fit and navigate difficult problems. After a year doing regular training, I was told I would be joining an elite team. I had to study and practice for 5 years before they let me into the field. It was intense – computer programming, electrical engineering, martial arts, foreign languages, you name it – anything and everything they could cram in my brain to make me the perfect black-ops agent. 12 years in the field and hundreds of missions later, my supervisors were looking to put me at the top – chief supervisor for the black ops division. I began training over two years for the position. Just before my training was over, they had me go on that one last job to intercept the Chinese spy. That’s when I put the puzzle pieces together.

Cap

What do you mean by puzzle pieces? What was the final picture?

Mack

The picture was control. Total control. After all those years in the field blindly following orders, my brain began to put together the sum of all my actions. I realized that I was just a pawn in a game, manipulating global politics for powers I couldn’t even identify. It wasn’t just the ol’ U.S. government – there clearly were other interests at stake. I just couldn’t put my finger on who exactly, or maybe what, was controlling. There is something going on kid. There is a new world order coming to fruition.

Cap

My dad talked about that a bit when I was growing up. He was often listening to some radio show with a guy ranting and raving about the growing government. I was skeptical for a while until I got to college and saw the evidence. The collectivist mentality at college was mind-boggling. I couldn’t believe global control was being promoted in a country founded on individual rights.

Mack

You’re right kid. It’s a nightmare and I’m one to blame for it. I had such good intentions going in. I thought I was fighting for freedom. I thought I was making America better. Now I’m trying to make up for that. I’m hoping you can see the big picture too.

Cap

Now it’s personal. I’m with you. We need to stop this and find my parents before it’s too late.

Mack

And we need to figure what you’re made of kid. Between falling out of the car and that punch you gave me, I’m starting to wonder if you’re more than flesh and bones.

Cap

I don’t know. I feel this latent tingling across my body. It’s like when water is trying to pass through a knotted hose. There’s all this energy I feel building. Reminds me of the pumps I used to get in my high school weight lifting classes.

Mack

Whatever it is, we need to figure out your potential because the last thing we need is for you to accidentally crush me.

Cap

Hahah! Yeah. That would be funny.

Mack

Not for me! In any case, I made you some food. When you’re done, we’ve got to pack up and move to the next location. It’s clear that the agents are sweeping the area looking for you. We need to go to another state.

Cap

Where?

Mack

The best place to hide is in a million faces. Around New York City.

Cap

There’s a bunker in NYC?

Mack

Not quite a bunker. More like a sewer. But it’s better than you think. Plus I’m gonna clean it up a little.

Cap

In that case it better be short-term. I don’t like how much of a police state NY already is.

Mack

Oh, I know. But it’ll be an easy cover for now. Let’s get rollin.

Cap

Rollin.

SCENE: Cap and Mack pack up a third secret van made to look like a carpet cleaning van at the base and head to NYC. They stop at a rest area on the way.

Mack

We need to stop here for some wardrobe changes.

Cap

What for?

Mack

I have some costume items we need to wear to avoid further detection. Fake mustaches, hair, makeup, and some moles.

Cap

That’ll be interesting. What mustache do I get?

Mack

Do you want to look like Ron Burgundy or Tom Selleck?

Cap

Burgundy.

Mack

Haha. Selleck for me then.

Let’s go freshen up.

Cap

Ok. How do I apply it?

Mack

You just take off the peel on the back and slap it on. Should be good. Add some of this makeup here around to smooth it in. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Cap

Yeah, all that makeup I’ve been applying in my life…

Mack

You got an engineering degree. I think you can figure it out.

Cap

Haha. Alright.

Scene: Cap and Mack come out looking like dudes from the 80s. Continue toward NYC. Arrive in Staten Island at a cemetery.

Mack

Here we are.

Cap

This is not NYC. We’re in Staten Island.

Mack

I know. I said NYC. It’s close enough. The secret entrance is in the back of the cemetery. We will have to drive through and enter a key code.

Cap

So just how do you have these locations ready?

Mack

I was busy whenever I had vacation time.

Cap

But wouldn’t the government have found out?

Mack

I have my secrets – you sometimes have to enlist help from outside sources.

Cap

Alright. But you’ll tell me eventually who that is, right?

Mack

We’ll see.

Scene: Driving up through cemetery. Arrive at back gate. Enters code. Gate opens to second area. Mack drives a little further, stops, and gets out. Comes to headstone. Moves a angel’s hand and then presses the eye of the stone angel. A touch-pad pops out. Mack enters a pin and the earth moves up, revealing an underground driveway.

Cap

Well I’ll be…

Mack

(Continues driving down a dark path that looks like an old subway station. Eventually turns down a narrow hall which leads to an open room, somewhat similar to the last bunker but this time it is clear that it was made as a sewer originally and not a cavern for mining.)

Mack

Home sweet home for now. I’ll begin setting up. You just take a nap.

Cap

No, I want to help and learn. The faster we work, the sooner we can get to solving where my parents are.

Mack

I like your spirit. Alright, grab the power cables from the trunk – we’re going to generate some electricity.

Scene: Montage of them setting up.

Mack

Good work. Now we need to stock up on some food.

Cap

I have no money.

Mack

It’s ok. I have a very special debit card that does the trick. We will leave here when it gets a little darker though. We are safe to leave so long as my pals are on watch.

Cap

Pals?

Mack

As I said – I have connections. But, for now, it’s best if you don’t get involved for the security of our mission.

Cap

Alright alright. Can we change into regular clothes?

Mack

Soon. We’ll get those things when we get food.
